* For best results, this workshop is most often delivered as a two-day program (maximum 10 participants) with the second day mainly presenting to video then playback, with self, peer and Facilitator critique.
It may be delivered as a one-day program (up to 16 participants) with minimal or no presenting by participants.
Video critique
A two-day workshop (maximum 10 participants) with the second day mainly presenting to video then playback and self, peer and Facilitator critique. Participants comment how valuable it is to see yourself as others see you!
We've seen many a bad habit, such as:
- verbal mannerisms ('um', 'you know', 'now')
- poor eye contact
- distracting movement
cured, simply by seeing themselves played back on video.
We've also seen amateur speakers transform, skilled presenters become more confident and polished with the guidance of our experienced and savvy Facilitator.

Case Study
A Financial services company engaged us to deliver a two-day Presentation Skills program for staff who were going to deliver a presentation 'roadshow' overseas. Their key people were inexperienced. We videoed each of their introduction and opening, then a few minutes presentation , then their ending and handling of Q & A. We included invited self, peer and Facilitator feedback.
Classic mistakes of novices were evident:
- lack of eye contact or favouring one side of the room
- jiggling of legs or fidgeting of hands
- vocal mannerisms ('um', 'ah')
- lack of fluency or conversational style
- talking 'at' the audience
- over-reliance on notes or PowerPoint.
Over the two days, the transformation was truly astounding. Amateur became competent, confident became masterful.

Presentation Skills: Self-talk - what do you say to yourself before presenting to an audience?
Does your intermal conversation sabotage your confidence just before you present?Let me tell you a story. I was once a contestant on a well-known TV Quiz show.New contestants entered the set through sliding doors. A female contestant was accompanied by a male model in a tuxedo. As he and I stood waiting for the sliding doors to open, he asked, ‘Are you nervous?’
Perhaps he could have asked, ‘How are you feeling?’ or even, ‘Do you feel confident?’ (emphasising confidence rather than nerves). But no, he chose to ask, ‘Are you nervous?’.My answer was the positive affirmation I’d been saying to myself over and over.
I looked up at him and with a big smile said, ‘I feel supremely calm and confident.’
(It may sound a little strange out loud, but quietly spoken to myself, it had been comforting and reassuring.)
What do you say to yourself before you present?
I suggest you find a phrase that resonates with you.
My phrase is ‘I feel supremely calm and confident’. What’s yours?
